Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in which thin needles are inserted into the body. Although the origins of acupuncture are many thousands of years old and historically opaque, scientifically controlled studies clearly show its efficacy for a host of varied conditions - from enhancing fertility to resolving migraines.

Where does it come from?

The theory and practice of acupuncture originated in China. It was first mentioned and recorded in documents dating a few hundred years before the Common Era. Earlier instead of needles sharpened stones and long sharp bones were used around 6000 BCE for acupuncture treatment.

What are the health benefits?

  • Reduced Stress

  • Reduced Back Pain, Neck Tension and Relieve Joint Pain in the Hands and Arms

  • Relief from Headaches

  • Reduced Eye Strain

  • Improved Immune System and Reduced Sick Days

  • Enhanced Mental Clarity and Increased Energy

  • Relief from Digestive Conditions

What can you expect?

Insertion of the ultra-thin needles may cause a tingling sensation. Acupuncture typically causes little or no pain. The depth of the needles and the duration of the treatment vary with the medical problem and the individual's comfort level. Needles may be used for a few minutes or up to about 50 minutes.
